The
River Kwai has acquired a tragic fame during the second World War, due to
the building of the so-called “Passage of Death” and the many casualties
among the Allied prisoners of war.
After
we have reached the provincial capital Kanchanaburi, we’ll first learn
about this episode through a visit to the “JEATH War Museum”.
During a drive
alongside the river to the famous River Kwai Bridge, we’ll see numerous
floating houses. Our lunch will consist of an abundant selection of
European and Thai foods, the historical train trip will not pass through
the notorious passage of death, witch we’ve seen before, but through
jungle and various plantations.
Before we return
to our place of departure, we’ll still make a short stop at one of the two
war cemeteries

Der River Kwai hat im 2. Weltkrieg traurige Berühmtheit erlangt durch den Bau
der sog. 'Todesstrecke‘ und die vielen ums Leben gekom-menen alliierten
Kriegsgefangenen.
Nachdem wir die Provinzhauptstadt
Kanchanaburi erreicht haben, werden wir zunächst Zeuge dieser Zeit im
'Jeath War‘ Kriegsmuseum. Eine Fahrt entlang dem Fluss bringt uns vorbei
an zahlreichen schwimmenden Häusern zur berühmten 'Brücke am Kwai‘.
Unser
Mittagessen besteht aus einem reichhaltigen Buffet an europäischen und
thailändischen Speisen. Die historische Eisen-bahnfahrt führt uns nicht nur
über das berüchtigte 'Todesviadukt‘, welches wir vorher besichtigt haben,
sondern auch durch Dschungelland und verschiedene Plantagen. Bevor wir zu
unserem Ausgangspunkt zurückfahren, machen wir noch einen kurzen Stop bei
einem der beiden Soldatenfriedhöfe.
